Special Education for Montessori Teachers provides Montessori teachers with essential knowledge and practical strategies for working with the special education system.

“The course provided invaluable insights into IEPs, 504 plans, autism spectrum awareness, and ongoing research in special education and Montessori methods. This wealth of knowledge will undoubtedly enhance my teaching career in a Montessori classroom.”

Special education is a highly detailed and regulated branch of public education with specific concepts, vocabulary, requirements, and procedures. Many teachers, Montessori and conventional, are not trained in special education, yet they encounter students with disabilities and special needs every day and interact with the system frequently.

In this course, experienced special educator and Montessorian Dr. Andrée Rolfe, Ed.D., provides Montessori teachers with essential knowledge about the system,  high-incidence disabilities, and critical practical strategies and guidelines to effectively meet individual needs while making the Montessori curriculum accessible.

Participants will learn about:

  • Montessori adaptations and interventions
  • The structure and requirements of special education
  • Co-planning with the special education team and the family
  • IEPs and 504 plans
  • ADHD
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Reading disabilities
  • Sensory processing issues

This course will include eight live sessions, meeting on the following Tuesdays from 7-8:30pm ET:
