Child Study is a Montessori-based approach to MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) and RTI (Response to Intervention). This 11-week online training prepares educators to implement the Child Study Protocol in their school.

Session topics include:

  • Fully-implemented Montessori practice
  • Family communication & partnerships
  • Guidelines to writing student goals
  • Examples and case studies for student accommodations and interventions for academic and socioemotional needs
  • Data-driven planning and interventions
  • Strategies for student emotional support
  • Trauma-informed in-class practices

Child Study Training includes readings, videos, written assignments, and 11 live sessions. Live sessions are Wednesdays from 6-7:30pm ET on the following dates:

  • March 9

  • March 23
  • March 30

Thanks to the generosity of the authors of the book “Montessori Inclusion: Strategies and Supports for Learners with Exceptionalities,” NCMPS has a limited number of fully funded seats in our Child Study Training available for practitioners in public Montessori settings. If you are currently employed in a public Montessori school and would like to be considered for this scholarship, please complete this form.

Participants who successfully complete the course will be eligible to request Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Loyola University Maryland.

About the instructor:

María Carvajal has 20 years of experience in teaching, educational research, consulting, mentorship, and program management in El Salvador, Mexico, Spain, and the U.S. She is an AMI elementary guide with primary teaching experience, and holds a B.A. and M.A. in Humanities from the University of Navarra and a M.Ed. in Montessori Elementary Education from Loyola University Maryland. María’s professional interests include trauma-informed care, English learner education, and early intervention.
