This 9-hour professional development course is offered to All Our Kin’s Family Child Care Providers. Through this course, participants will learn about the Montessori approach to education, which provides both insight and practices for child-centered care that is developmentally attuned and highly practical while, at the same time, offering a pedagogy rooted in the belief in the unmanifested potential and inherent assets of both children and adults.
Participants in this course will learn about:

  • Culturally Responsive & Asset-Based Montessori Pedagogy in Home Environments
  • Needs and Stages of Child Development
  • Montessori Practices in Home Environments 
  • Role of the Montessori Adult in Family Child Care 
  • Adult and Child Resilience and Emotional Wellbeing as Response to Stress and Trauma 
  • Behavior Management and Family Communication

All sessions will be held virtually from 6:30-8:00pm EST on the following dates:

  • February 8
  • February 22
  • March 8
  • March 15 
  • March 22
  • March 29

Participants who successfully complete this course will be eligible to request Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Loyola University Maryland.

About the Instructor

María Carvajal is the Student Support Specialist at the National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector (NCMPS). She has 20 years of experience in teaching and educational research in El Salvador, Mexico, Spain, and the U.S. María is a certified Montessori elementary teacher and holds a B.A. and M.A. in Humanities from the University of Navarra and a M.Ed. in Montessori Elementary Education from Loyola University Maryland. María’s professional interests include trauma-informed care, English learner education, and early intervention.
