The first few years as a Montessori guide bring excitement and optimism, along with the challenges of effectively implementing newly acquired knowledge of Montessori philosophy and child-centered assessment and instruction, while navigating the pressures of accountability.
Instructional coaches are in the unique position to provide individualized support to build novice teachers’ capacity to take theory into practice, facilitate reflective thinking, foster agency, and build upon empowerment through intentional conversation and purposeful design. The Montessori Coach is the essential figure and mentor in preparing the school environment to support new teachers by:
- promoting a practice of learning and inquiry,
- observing and meeting with new teachers to support their practice, and
- facilitating their understanding of Montessori Philosophy and Pedagogy, thus taking theory to practice for successful implementation.
This workshop is an online community of practice for graduates of NCMPS’ Coaches Training. Participants meet bimonthly during the school year for hour-long sessions via Zoom, led by an NCMPS Coach. The syllabus is designed to build connection, community, and capacity in our work – offering the opportunity to share and collaborate, refine skills and tools, and learn new techniques.
